SOP Builder Kit

A complete system for using AI to document your business processes — so the way you do things doesn't live only in your head.

This kit walks you through every stage: extracting a process from memory using an AI interview, formatting it into a clean and usable SOP, preparing it to hand off to a team member or contractor, and organizing a growing library of SOPs so they stay useful over time.

What's in this kit

File What it does
interview-prompt-sequence.md An AI-guided interview process for turning what's in your head into a documented procedure
sop-formatting-template.md A consistent format for writing and storing SOPs that anyone can follow
handoff-checklist.md What to do before giving an SOP to a team member, contractor, or AI tool
sop-library-guide.md How to organize and maintain a growing SOP library so it doesn't go stale

What an SOP actually is (and isn't)

A Standard Operating Procedure is a documented, step-by-step description of how a specific task gets done in your business. That's it.

It doesn't need to be long. It doesn't need to be formal. It doesn't need special software. A good SOP is one that a new person — or an AI tool — can read and use to complete the task the way you'd do it yourself.

What it isn't: a policy document, a mission statement, a list of values, or a training manual. SOPs are operational. They describe actions, in order, with enough context to be useful without you in the room.

Where to start

If you've never written an SOP before, start with one task. Pick something you do repeatedly, something you've explained to someone else more than once, or something that would fall apart if you were suddenly unavailable for a week.

Run the interview sequence in interview-prompt-sequence.md with that task. Format the output using sop-formatting-template.md. You'll have a working SOP in under an hour.

Build from there.
