Ben Peterson 👋

Senior Full-Stack Engineer · Tech Lead · AI Builder

I build. I lead. I fix what breaks.

I build products from idea to production, with a strong focus on startups, AI-native SaaS, and systems that need to move fast without becoming a mess six months later.

Over 8 years working across the stack — product architecture, frontend, backend, databases, AI, integrations, infrastructure, and production.

These days, most of my work lives somewhere between software engineering and AI.

What I Build

  • AI-native SaaS products
  • AI Agents & intelligent automation
  • Real-time Voice AI systems
  • Multi-tenant platforms
  • APIs & third-party integrations
  • Internal tools and business automation
  • Products that need to scale beyond the first version

I enjoy starting with an idea, figuring out the architecture, building it, shipping it, and continuing to own what happens in production.

I'm also frequently the engineer brought in when a system is already complicated, something isn't working, or nobody is completely sure where the problem is.

Those are usually the interesting ones.

Stack

Frontend
React · Next.js · TypeScript · Tailwind CSS

Backend
Node.js · Fastify · Express · NestJS · Python · FastAPI

Data
PostgreSQL · MongoDB · Redis · Vector Databases

AI
LLMs · AI Agents · RAG · Tool Calling · Voice AI · Streaming · Embeddings · Prompt Engineering

Infrastructure
AWS · Azure · Docker · Linux · Vercel · CI/CD · OpenTelemetry

Communication
REST · GraphQL · WebSockets · SSE

Building with AI

I'm particularly interested in what happens after the LLM demo works.

How does the agent access real business data?

How does it call tools safely?

How do you handle authentication, permissions, billing, usage, memory, knowledge, realtime communication, failures, and observability?

How does the whole thing actually survive production?

That's where I spend most of my time.

How I Work

Ship fast, without shipping chaos.

I like startup environments where engineers have ownership and technical decisions have a visible impact on the product.

My approach is pragmatic:

  • Understand the business problem first
  • Keep architecture as simple as the problem allows
  • Build for change, not hypothetical complexity
  • Automate what slows the team down
  • Measure before optimizing
  • Treat production problems as engineering problems, not someone else's problem
  • Refactor when reality proves the original assumptions wrong

Good engineering isn't about making things complicated.

It's about making complicated things work.

Current Focus

Building and leading engineering around:

AI Agents · AI SaaS · Voice AI · LLM Systems · Automation · Next.js · Node.js · Cloud Architecture

Let's Connect

I'm particularly interested in US startups building ambitious SaaS and AI products.

If you're building something difficult, we probably have something to talk about.
