Networking Labs

A collection of hands-on networking labs completed as part of CST8108 – Network Programming Basics in the Computer Engineering Technology – Computing Science program at Algonquin College.

Each lab was completed in the college networking lab and then recreated in Cisco Packet Tracer to provide a reproducible environment for reviewing network topologies, configurations, and verification procedures.

This repository showcases practical networking experience and serves as a technical portfolio demonstrating foundational skills in network configuration, IP addressing, troubleshooting, connectivity testing, and traffic analysis.

Lab Index

Lab Topic Skills Demonstrated
Lab 01 LAN Setup, Router Configuration & DHCP Ethernet cabling, Cisco IOS CLI, DHCP configuration, IPv4 addressing, ICMP testing, connectivity verification

  • Cisco Packet Tracer
  • Cisco IOS
  • Windows Networking Utilities (ipconfig, ping)
  • Ethernet Networking
  • IPv4
  • TCP/IP Protocol Suite

Repository Structure

Each lab follows a consistent structure:

XX-Topic/
├── README.md # Lab documentation
├── *.pkt # Cisco Packet Tracer topology
└── images/ # Annotated screenshots

Every lab includes:

  • Objectives
  • Network topology
  • Device configuration
  • Verification and testing
  • Protocol and traffic analysis
  • Key networking concepts
  • Screenshots
  • Skills demonstrated

Skills Demonstrated

  • Ethernet cabling
  • IPv4 addressing
  • DHCP configuration
  • Cisco IOS command-line interface
  • Switch configuration
  • Router configuration
  • Static routing
  • WAN serial links (HDLC)
  • Client–server networking
  • HTTP and web server configuration
  • TCP/IP protocol analysis
  • Packet capture and inspection
  • ICMP diagnostics
  • TTL and packet forwarding
  • Connectivity testing
  • Network troubleshooting
  • Traffic verification

Purpose

The goal of this repository is to document practical networking experience gained through coursework while providing a well-organized portfolio of reproducible networking labs.

New labs will be added throughout the program as additional networking concepts and technologies are covered.
