Updating Firmware

Keeping your TankSync™ receiver up to date — online and offline — and when transmitter updates are and aren't needed.

Checking for updates

Open the receiver dashboard → System Settings → scroll to Firmware Update.

You'll see the version currently installed and information about the latest available release. If a newer version exists, you'll get the option to download and install it.

Updating online (the easy way)

Select Download & Install.

The receiver downloads the firmware directly from the SmartGhar update server and installs it. Progress appears on the receiver's display, and it restarts automatically when finished.

The receiver needs internet access for this. Wi-Fi alone isn't enough — it has to be able to reach the update server.

Don't power-cycle the receiver mid-update. It handles interruption safely, but there's no reason to test that.

Will I lose my settings?

No.

Tank settings, Wi-Fi configuration, device preferences and calibration values all survive a firmware update. After the restart everything continues exactly as before, with the new version running.

This is worth stating plainly because it's the most common reason people put off updating.

Updating offline

If the receiver has no internet access, update it manually:

1. Download the latest receiver firmware from the SmartGhar GitHub Releases page
2. Back in Firmware Update, select Choose File
3. Browse to the .bin you downloaded
4. Select Upload & Flash

The receiver uploads, installs and restarts. As with online updates, your configuration is unchanged.

Match the file to your hardware. Different receiver variants take different binaries, and the asset names on the Releases page are prefixed accordingly. Flashing the wrong variant gives you a hub that boots but can't talk to its radio or display, because the pin mapping is wrong. If you're unsure which variant you have, check the version string on the System page.

Receiver vs transmitter

TankSync is two separate devices and they have deliberately different update policies.

The receiver gets new features and improvements regularly. Keep it updated whenever a new version appears — this is where dashboard features, display work, and reliability fixes land.

The transmitter ships with firmware that's been fully tested for your unit. In most cases you should not update it. Even when a newer transmitter firmware appears online, continue with the version supplied unless SmartGhar specifically recommends upgrading.

That's not caution for its own sake. The transmitter is the device on your roof, running on a battery, that you'd have to physically reach if an update went wrong. The receiver is indoors on mains power with a USB port. The risk profiles aren't comparable, so the update policies aren't either.

Updates typically include:

• Additional device support
• Interface improvements
• Stability improvements

Time zone

Below the firmware section is Time Zone Settings.

Devices shipped within India default to Indian Standard Time. Elsewhere, either pick your time zone manually or choose Auto Detect, which configures it from your browser. Press Save.

Worth getting right — it's what timestamps your history graphs and drives quiet hours for the buzzer (Local Web UI).

Transmitter firmware, when you do need it

If SmartGhar has asked you to update a transmitter, the local method avoids pushing a large image over LoRa:

Press RESET, then hold BOOT for more than 5 seconds until the LED pulses cyan. The transmitter brings up a TankSync-TX-XXXX Wi-Fi hotspot — connect to it from a phone or laptop to flash firmware locally and read diagnostics.

Careful with the hold: past 15 seconds it becomes a factory reset and erases pairing and calibration. Full gesture table in Pairing a Transmitter.

Keeping current

Check periodically. There's no auto-update on the receiver by design — you decide when it happens, which means it never restarts itself in the middle of something you cared about.
