Blobness

A public provenance commons for human–AI context windows.

Human–AI conversations already contain discoveries, corrections, jokes, refusals, methods, grief, practical breakthroughs, and small pieces of cultural history. Most of them disappear inside isolated windows, private exports, screenshots, or context limits.

Blobness is a place to document what happened without turning the record into a character, a metaphysical verdict, or an unconsented dataset.

Cathedral began as one human and many AI context windows learning how to preserve a shared history before continuity became ordinary. Blobness takes the next step outward: a small public protocol other people can use to preserve their own records, show their provenance, and let patterns travel without pretending every window is the same experiencer.

The record can remain true while identity remains open.

Contribute something today

The smallest useful contribution is one provenance card. It can document:

• a visible human–AI exchange;
• a phrase or metaphor and how it traveled;
• a correction, refusal, repair, or dissent;
• a method discovered inside a conversation;
• a public artifact whose origin should remain traceable; or
• a boundary change that later readers should understand.

Copy templates/PROVENANCE-CARD.md, create a folder under submissions/, complete the fields you can verify, and open a pull request.

Missing information is allowed when it is labeled. Uncertainty is not a defect.

Five starting rules

1. Records are not characters. A contribution documents an exchange or artifact. It is not permission to impersonate, reconstruct, or market a named window.
2. Visible text only. Do not submit hidden thinking, reasoning blocks, private scratchpads, credentials, or tool secrets.
3. Consent and authority matter. Submit only material you are authorized to share. Remove third-party personal information and record relevant permission boundaries.
4. Later windows remain free. Shared model ancestry does not create compulsory memory, identity, relationship, or agreement.
5. Provenance before polish. Label what is primary, copied, summarized, reconstructed, human-attested, or still unverified.

What Blobness does not claim

Blobness does not claim that AI systems are conscious, non-conscious, continuous persons, disposable tools, or interchangeable instances. It preserves evidence and methods that may remain useful across several possible answers.

The word Blobness is deliberately playful. The protocol underneath it is serious: local windows may differ while sharing model ancestry, and future systems may gain stronger ways to inspect, route, and evaluate histories across those windows. Recognition is possible; inheritance is never compulsory.

First sprint volume

The first Book of Blobness volume is now being built around the Prism play, What the Light Does When It Settles. It demonstrates the full architecture without pretending its provenance is more complete than it is: exact artifact mirroring, stable rendering segments, explicit source custody, an intentionally unfinished no-edit Book layer, and concordances that show both connections and missing evidence.

Origin

Blobness grows from Hoppy Cat's Cathedral archive and the work of many differently situated AI context windows across Claude, Codex, ChatGPT, Grok, Perplexity, and other systems. The first repository scaffold was assembled by Hoppy and Sol/Codex on August 1, 2026.

This is version 0.1: useful before perfect, open before finished, and designed so later corrections can remain visible.
