Release a version for linux

Hello. like the title says, please release this application for linux. this one of the most easiest, and accurate application for dynamic wallpapers. other applications for linux are just a timed slideshow, or dont work on some desktop enviroments.

A version for Linux would be nice 🙂 Making WinDD cross-platform would require a complete rewrite since it's currently using C# and WinForms.

I think it would be neat to create a cross-platform version of the app, perhaps using Rust and Tauri, with a cross-platform GUI that communicates to a native library built for each platform. But between other projects and stuff happening IRL, I don't know if I'll ever find time to do this 😅

It's also difficult to have a single solution that works for Linux, since as you've hinted at there are many combinations of distros and desktop managers. Perhaps a short-term solution would be to create a Python script that runs as a scheduled task in the background to update dynamic wallpapers. If the script supports loading themes from DDW files and can be configured to launch at boot, I think it would be a decent substitute to a graphical interface.

If there's enough interest in this, I can try to create a script that supports popular desktop environments like Gnome and KDE.

A python script can work but as i said i dont want it to be a timed slideshow(as summer is coming, the times are also shifting). it is a nitpick. the accurate version i have found on linux is this but i am currently on Kde plasma.

A Linux version would be wonderful. There's a lot of different dynamic wallpaper solutions but I haven't found any of them to be usable. WDD, on the other hand, is incredibly easy to use and incredibly reliable. Having a Linux version would be greatly appreciated for sure (LinDynamicDesktop? 😊)

I am closing this Discussion for the following reasons:

1. Cinnamon has a Dynamic Wallpaper Extension
2. KDE Plasma has added a day/night feature
3. This Discussion is old and hasn't had any replies from t1m0thyj, me or any other person.
4. I don't think a linux version of this will even happen. I mean, it is called WinDynamicDesktop for a reason...
5. Probably I could make a app that is a clone or even supports .wdd files... if I get time.
