Petar Puskarich - Ensoniq hdmi output with 2 line debug overlay #47

Description

@ppuskari

Not an issue but something i have been working on the last year and finished today - Working Ensoniq output

Apple_IIgs_DOC5503_FPGA_Engineering_Design_History.docx

a2n20v2_enhanced.docx

doc5503.docx
sound_glu.docx

top.docx

For all but the first document, change the suffix from .docx to .fx or .sv as required....

The first document is the ChatGPT 5.5 synopsis of my logging and trials to get this working and sounding even better than a GS can on its own. So far, I have not found any application or game that doesn't work correctly now. The saturating output seems to allow for so much more bass headroom. With beatbox, even the difficult FastTracker8 and OctaMed Pro modules seem to work better when comparing native to FPGA Ensoniq.

I have NOT enabled the full 128k DOC RAM yet. Looks like you guys wired it, but not fully engaged it yet. Antoine allowed me to have his test harness for 128k Ensoniq playback, and it seems to work in my latest evening build, but I wasn't ready to include it yet.....

See what makes sense and include anything you like. I'm extremely happy with the audio AND the recording coming over TOSLINK from the HDMI splitter too. IIGS sound has never been this clear for me. Since September 27, 1986, when I got my GS on release day as a very lucky 14-year-old.

Wasn't sur of your plans for the latest builds or when you all were planning to release, but I wanted to have at least this ready for Virtual KFest this year. I'm not presenting as in previous years, but will be attending the virtual event as a user.

Absolutely love what I saw there for Uthernet II feature!

I'm already planning some alternate modes to enable for the GS with possible BASS/Treble control and maybe click filtering. Will see how it goes from my old code some 30 plus years ago to bring forward to this.

I built this on the Enhanced board definition since the GS specific one wasn't compiling for me. it would crash to monitor on boot... And since the enhanced version worked when I compiled as the baseline I went with that. my top.sv, doc5503.sv, and soundglu.sv are included above as well as the latest core I'm using. Oh and that first link covers basically the bulk of the last 2 weeks of troubleshooting and testing about every idea I had to find what was happening in multiple places. Learned a ton!!! Thanks for your work!

Bravo Ed!!!!!
