Emotes currently cancel immediately instead of maintaining until another player action is taken. For example using the sleep emote results in the animation of laying down, laying for 1-2 seconds then rising up like some sort of Vampire rather than the previous action which had the animation for laying down play, the player laying down indefinitely, and the standing up animation playing once an action is initiated.
This is also true for kneeling.
I suspect this is also why players begin playing the drowning animation within 3-4 second of entering the water.
